Students should contact the relevant institution directly, explain the apparent error or missing information, and ask what correction or additional-information process is available. A submitted application should not be assumed to be editable, and an amendment should not be treated as guaranteed.
What should the student explain?
The student should identify:
- the application detail that appears incorrect;
- the information or document that is missing;
- the international qualification listed, if relevant; and
- whether the issue was noticed before or after submission.
This gives the institution enough information to determine its next step without assuming that the application can be changed.
What if an international qualification is not listed?
UCAS advises students to discuss unlisted international qualifications directly with the institution. An international qualification that does not appear in the university’s listed entry requirements should therefore be raised with the institution for consideration; its absence from the list does not by itself establish whether it will be accepted.
The student should ask whether the qualification is accepted and what evidence, if any, the institution requires.
What if the support received seems inadequate?
The UKCISA guide advises students who believe that an agent service is inadequate to contact the institutions they are applying to. The institution is therefore the appropriate place to establish whether an error can be corrected, what missing material must be supplied, and how the application should be handled.
What does the student still need to confirm?
The cited guidance does not provide a universal correction deadline, amendment process or guaranteed outcome. Before relying on an application update, the student should confirm directly:
- Whether the submitted application can still be amended.
- How the error or omission should be reported.
- Which documents or details are required.
- Whether there is a deadline for providing them.
- Whether the qualification is accepted.
- Whether the correction changes the application’s assessment or status.
Where possible, the student should retain the submitted message and obtain written confirmation of the institution’s response. General guidance cannot establish that an error has been fixed, missing information has been received, or an application outcome has changed.
