Verify the agent’s status directly with the university you are considering. The British Council advises checking whether that university works with agents in your country, and says most UK education providers publish a list of the agencies they work with.
How to check the agent’s status
- Check the university’s website. Look for an education-agents, partnerships or approved-agencies page, and search for the agent’s name.
- Ask the university to confirm the relationship. If you cannot find the agent, contact the university and ask whether it regularly works with that agency in your country.
- Compare the university’s answer with its published list. A listing can support a claimed relationship, but you still need to confirm that the named agency is covered.
- Use the British Council counsellor database as an additional check. It can help you find agents with knowledge of UK study destinations, but a counsellor listing is not, by itself, proof that a particular university has authorised that agent.
What must you still confirm yourself?
An agent’s knowledge of UK applications and an agent’s relationship with a particular university are not the same thing. Confirm the university-specific relationship rather than assuming that general UK study knowledge or an agent’s own marketing establishes authority to represent that university.
Also check the exact name under which the agency operates. The British Council guidance cited here does not provide a universal approval register or define the precise scope of an agent’s authority, so the university must confirm whether it works with the agency in question.
